New Non-Profit Partner - Save Our Shores

Save Our Shores - Non-profit PartnershipAs part of our 5% Paddle Pledge, Cali Paddler regularly adopts new non-profit groups that care for our shorelines, waters and the wildlife that live there. We donate 5% of all sales proceeds to these groups during specified quarters. We are proud to announce our newest partnership and share with you all the amazing things they are doing. We proudly introduce Save Our Shores and thank their team for sharing below a little bit about them.

SAVE OUR SHORES

Who They Are

Save Our Shores began as a grassroots movement to protect the Monterey Bay from offshore drilling in 1978. They then helped secure Sanctuary status for the Bay which was granted by an act of Congress in 1992. For the last four decades, Save Our Shores has continuously fostered protection and conservation of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary through awareness, advocacy, and action.

What They Do

From climate change to plastic pollution and wildlife disturbance to habitat degradation, a host of threats challenge the well-being of the Monterey Bay. Save Our Shores works hard every day to protect and conserve the precious local marine environment and address those threats. They inform and educate the public, foster the next generation of ocean stewards, promote smarter marine environmental policies, and motivate and catalyze citizen action on a daily basis.

Save Our Shores - Non-profit Partnership

Why is This Important?

The ocean is continuously under threat. This is true now more than ever with the risk of re-opening the shores to offshore drilling, utilize the open waters for unsustainable economic practices, and reduce the size of our National Marine Sanctuaries. On a daily basis we are combating these ill-advised policies while simultaneously trying to reduce the 8 million metric tons of plastic pollution that enter our ocean annually.

How Can Cali Paddlers Help?

You can check out our events calendar and join one of our Sanctuary Speaker Series events or help out at a beach or paddle cleanup. If you want to take your volunteerism to the next level, you can become a certified Sanctuary Steward and help with educational programs, outreach events, and lead your own cleanups. Most importantly, you can be a good steward of the ocean. Respect wildlife from afar, leave no trace of chemicals or trash on land or in water sources, and reduce your trash production on a daily basis!

Team Writer Josh OlsonDirector of Non-Profit Relations Josh Olson -Josh has been a supporter of our conservation and stewardship vision from the very start. Even when he and his wife had a newborn baby, they were with us at our beach clean-ups. It is part of his nature to seek out opportunities to make our waterways and beaches cleaner and healthier. So when the opportunity to add Josh to our team as our non-profit liaison became open, we were thrilled.

With a background in the outdoor recreation industry, and diverse paddling resume from kayak training and certification to outrigger canoe racing, Josh knows what it is like to be a paddler. And how a company like Cali Paddler can make a difference given the right energy and passion. Josh embraces the role of seeking out amazing environmental groups in our state, and creating relationships with them. So we can promote their efforts, and share with all the paddlers in our state these great groups. In addition, we will be adding to our 5% Paddler Pledge recipient list, and Josh will be thoroughly researching these great groups, to ensure that your purchases are worthy of your donations with each product you buy.
